Date palm is a flowering plant species in the palm family, cultivated for its edible fruit.It probably originated from the fertile  crescent region straddling between Egypt and Mesopotamia. The species is grown across North Africa, Middle east and South Asia .Dates are oval-cylindrical ,long ,ranging from bright red to bright yellowish, depending upon the variety dried dates are very sweet, and containing 60-75% of sugar.

  • Khadrawi

Khadrawi  is not so sweet  and a classic soft variety.

  • Dayri:

It  has a  strong flavour of vanilla and is less sweet.

  • Amber:

It is a dry date with a pretty color and shape . It has a sweet cinnamon flavour.

  • Yellow Barhi:

It  have crisp texture of an apple and a flavour  that  is  fresh. Yellow Barhi  are considered a delicacy in old-world date-growing regions.

  • Kustawi:

It is a fine dessert date for eating  out of hand,with an elegant “date-y” flavour.

  • Zahidi:

It is also known as “butter date” for its pale color and subtle flavour.

  • Medjool:

It is known as “queen of dates” .It has large size ,pillowy  texture and very sweet strong flavour.Medjool is famous date in America.

  • Deglet Noor:

This fruit is an example of dry category.It is nutty and evocative of brown sugar.

  • Barhi:

It is a soft variety date with delicate skin and melting texture.

Some people have allergies after eating dates .Some of the symptoms are itching skin, redness, nausea, vomiting etc.

Eating dates during first stage of pregnancy may affect foetus health because of its high iron content.
